I raise my shield
sometimes at ghosts
its sharpened edge
lacerates everything
I so fear losing
another life
naked, enslaved
comfortable, complicit
why rise up
freedom is such sour sorrow
he was gravity
and the dead light of distant stars
and the darkness of antimatter
I am the dust floating invisibly
in all directions
my hands are strong and careful
bold and easily confused
what they hold they won't let go
they always overreach
on my heart's behalf
an airplane made of paper
a book on how to fold them
a paper cut
a curse word
a dream shared, abandoned
